What is a starting capacitor? The starting capacitor is ac electrolytic capacitor or polypropylene polyester capacitor, which is used to start single-phase asynchronous motor. To understand how starting capacitors are constructed, we need to understand how starting capacitors work.
The capacitor induction motor has two windings, we name them the start winding and the operation winding. The two windings differ by 90 degrees in space. A capacitor with a large capacity is concatenated to the starting winding. When the operation winding and start winding pass through single-phase alternating current, the current in the start winding is 90 degrees ahead of the current in the operation winding due to the action of the capacitor, and reaches the maximum value first. Two identical pulsed magnetic fields are formed in time and space, which make a rotating magnetic field be generated in the air gap between stator and rotor. Under the action of the rotating magnetic field, an induced current is generated in the rotor of the motor, and the interaction between current and rotating magnetic field generates electromagnetic field torque, which makes the motor rotate. The internal structure of the start capacitor in single-phase ac motor is generally divided into two windings: start and operation. Please refer to the circuit diagram below:
